New trend: Frozen Yogurt

Source
Venue: Yogurberry

Locations:

World Square     Eastwood     Epping        Burwood               City George St.

Chatswood         Strathfield    Hurstville     Bondi Junction

Cost: Based on weight of purchase, 10c/20g

Dress code: Anything, go in your jeans and joggers, I promise I won’t judge you…

Review:

Frozen Yogurt is very in at the moment, with stores popping up in every suburb. The perfect snack, dessert or breakfast (if you want, I guess), Froyo, as the cool people say, is delicious, and depending on toppings, healthy. If you haven’t had frozen yogurt before and are worried about the protocols, I would recommend going with someone who has been before so they can let you know how it works (although it’s very easy, it may be a little overwhelming).

Source
Yogurberry is a quickly growing franchise that has serve yourself frozen yogurt. With a changing selection of toppings including the usual fruits, chocolates and lollies, Yogurberry is a cheaper and more individual experience of frozen yogurt. Depending on the size of the store, there will be a different amount of flavours, usually four different ones including the standard original and changing other flavours including mango, strawberry, passionfruit, taro, green tea, chocolate, pomegranate to name a few. They also offer coffee, smoothies and milkshakes. The quality of the frozen yogurt isn’t as good as Noggi and Moochi in my opinion, as it is icier rather than smooth and the original flavouring just… isn’t as good. But I still go there all the time, love a good Froyo Friday.

The World Bar...

Venue: World Bar
Location: 24 Bayswater Rd, Potts Point
Opening Hours:
Mon & Wed      1pm-2am
Tues & Thurs   1pm-4am
Fri - Sun            1pm-6am

Review:

The World Bar or ‘Cakes’ as it goes by on a Saturday night provides a unique experience with some of Sydney’s finest DJ’s laying down some ground-breaking tunes to satisfy even the toughest music critics. With three floors of different music blazing ‘Cakes’ is able to satisfy nearly all music one needs in the one complex. Originally a backpacker bar, the World Bar also has an outside patio unlike most clubs in Kings Cross allowing its visitors to take a time-out from the party taking place inside to have a chat to their acquaintances, old or new. World Bar provides a complete nightlife experience in the one complex for all its visitors and it goes without saying that I had a great night and will be visiting the World Bar on a Saturday night in the near future.

Seedy Sevs

Venue: Club 77
Location: 77 William St, Kings Cross
Opening hours: Wednesday - Saturday     9pm - 3am
Dress code: Very Casual

The 'seediness' of this club is what makes it so notorious in Sydney's nightlife. Yes, as you trail down the steps listening to the pumping sound system there is a haze of smoke coming up to greet you, but the music played is probably some of the best in Sydney. Club 77 is the place to be if you want to get down and dirty (literally). This place is not for the general George Street clubbing crowd, nor even the Kings Cross crowd, but one for a complete new level of hipsters and freaks. However hitting up Club 77 once in your life time is definitely worth the experience so after you've visited your fancy clubs take a drip down to the place where you can expect to dance until the early hours of the morning in a club that doesn't die down until daylight. Despite the stigma of it being dirty, I can't fault its originality. The place was quite an experience however not one of my favourites.

Messy Saturday

Venue: Chinese Laundry
Location: 111 Sussex St, Sydney (underneath Slip Inn)
Opening hours:
Friday       9:00pm – 3:00am
Saturday  9:00am – 4:00am
Dress code: Casual

Review:

I don't want to colour expectations too much, but if you are planning to visit Chinese Laundry, expect to get pretty trashy. Stashed away under the Slip Inn, this club has the feel of a dungeon . . . in a good way. The low ceilings and general density of the crowd make this a good choice if you're feeling dancey and there are a handful of rooms to circulate in, along with access to the courtyard between Slip Inn and Chinese Laundry. As you might expect, it is incredibly loud and this is not a bad thing at all. You're not here for conversation and bons mots.

Source
Obvious warning to everyone is the popularity of this venue, resulting in long lines, and the at-times exorbitant cover charge. I have seen my fair share of people turn away, annoyed by either the wait or the cost. You can beat this by getting in early (generally before 10pm) although empty clubs are always sad. Probably better to be carrying at least $50 on you for entry and your first one or two rounds. Drinks are expensive too, probably due to the influence of drugs in this scene. The club is probably more suited for an 18 year old crowd, so if you’re looking for a more relaxed place to spend your Saturday night I'd be looking elsewhere.

Newtown's rooftop bar lights up

Venue: ZanziBar

Location: 323 King St, Newtown

Opening hours:

Monday – Thursday        10:00am-4:00am

Friday                            10:00am – 6:00am

Saturday                        10:00am – 5:00am

Sunday                          10:00am – 12:00am

Dress code:
Smart casual

Review:

Only a block from Newtown station, ZanziBar is a relaxing and fun place to hang out with friends. The rooftop terrace is the place to be in Newtown with relaxed seating at tables and cushiony beanbags under strings of fairy lights. I went here on a cool winter night, and it was still very comfortable with outdoor heaters throughout. Don’t be put off by the steep steps to the roof, it is well worth it – rather wear lower heels.

Source
I think ZanziBar is the perfect place to hang out for dinner before hitting the city, or perhaps for a night chatting and catching up with friends, whilst still being in a busy and trendy area. The novelty rooftop bar is a lot of fun if you’re looking for something different. If you drink wine, my friends would recommend the $3.50 house wine before 7pm, and I would recommend the $20 jugs to share. ZanziBar offers a wide range of tapas as well as delicious chips and wedges. Would definitely recommend for a fun night out with friends.

Happy faces... Happy Days

Bungalow 8 is a wharf front bar/restaurant. We had been told by one of our friends that Tuesday is their all you can eat mussels for $30. I love mussels so this was something we just had to experience.

We made lunch reservations for 1pm but showed up a tad early. We were seated at a nice outdoor table. Our waitress explained the mussel selections such as provencal style, white wine and garlic and Thai style. She told us that the mussels included a drink, bread and chips. We could have as many portions as we desired and as many styles we desired. We were given wrist bands that identified us as here for the Mussel special. We placed our first order of Provencal Mussels for my husband and White Wine Sauce for myself. We took our drink voucher to the bar for some beer; a Toohey's for the hubby and a Pure Blonde for me (my favourite).

Our mussels arrived in a huge Belgian styled pot with chips and a large pice of bread. The pots contained tons of steaming hot mussels in their broth. Wow...the mussels were incredibly fresh and delicious. The sauce was perfect for dunking the warm bread. The chips were excellent and crispy and found their way into my sauce several times.

After eating our first bowl we relaxed a bit before ordering round two. For our second portion I tried the provencal style and hubby tried the Thai style. He really enjoyed the Thai style which was very fresh tasting with a nice creamy sauce. We couldn't finish our second portions since we were so full.

This was an awesome place for lunch and I will definitely do it again; especially on a Tuesday.

I loved the outdoor seating since we both love to people watch.

Coffee & Ice Cream Lovers...

Venue: Bay Vista

Location: 83 The Grand Parade, Brighton-Le-Sands

Cost: $3+

Dress code: Depends on Weather!

Review:

Bay Vista makes such awesome waffles and has the best Iced Caramels...YUM!! I come to this place often, we usually get a seat by the window downstairs and it's actually always a nice experience. I have never had too much of an issue with the staff however they do come across with a lot of attitude and like they can't be bothered. I think it's just the nature of how young most of the staff are, some of the girls and boys that work there look like they are no more than 13-14 and it's mainly the girls that have the bad attitude. The waffles are too good to resist so we keep going back for more!

Purrrrfect views & Food

Venue: Hugos Bar Manly

Location: Manly Wharf, Manly, Sydney

Cost: $17+

Dress code: Your choice!

Review:

Fabulous, relaxed style of restaurant.

Not cheap but right on the pier at Manly wharf after a 30 minute cruise across the magnificent Sydney Harbour.

The service was fantastic, the food was lovely. I had the home made gnocchi and let me tell you it was out of this world.
It also helped that the weather was great and our table was right in lovely natural sunlight.

Hugo's is on the wharf in Manly, and as a consequence it has great views (not a conventional consequence), and there is always a real buzz about the place. The table service was excellent, efficient but not overbearing. The lunch menu has about 5 specials, however two of us has 2 entrée courses, while our friends shared a pizza and a salad of quail. If you're planning a day out in Manly, you MUST visit Hugo's, it is simply divine... The vibe around the place is greatly upbeat and even great to down a few beverages with good friends or close acquaintances.

Yumm Ice-Cream!

Venue: Gelato Messina

Location:
Darlinghurst Store - Shop 1/241 Victoria Street, Sydney
The Star Store - Cafe Court, Level G, 80 Pyrmont Street, Pyrmont
Surry Hills Store - 329 Crown Street, Surry Hills

Cost: $4-9

Dress code: Anything you wish!

Music: No Music

Review:
Gelato Messina is the busiest and best gelato in Sydney, if you ask me.

Two scoops - Chocolate Chip and Lemon Sorbet
I arrived at the Darlinghurst store at about 4pm on a Sunday afternoon. The line was out the door (but don't worry because 5 minutes after I bought mine, there was no queue). I hadn't been before, so I was overwhelmed by all the flavours. I opted for two scoops for $4 so I could try some different flavours. I had Chocolate Chip and Lemon Sorbet. I would definitely recommend checking out what combinations they recommend here before you go. However, if you can't before you get there, try something different, perhaps a special. I wish I'd tried something different when I went, as I opted for the safe flavours that I knew I liked. Now I have an excuse to go again and again to try all the different flavours!

The Darlinghurst Messina is located on the busy Victoria Street. If you're driving, I would highly recommend parking in Womerah Avenue, three blocks east of the shop. It is hour-limit free parking and there are some spots, even if you have to drive around the block a couple of times. Practise your reverse parking skills before you go! If you're catching public transport, Messina is only 145 metres from Kings Cross train station, or catch the 327 bus from Elizabeth Street in the city. I would highly recommend the trip to any of the above locations, for the perfect Spring snack!

Yum!

Sydney's Finest...

Venue: Marquee Sydney

Location: 80 Pyrmont Street, Pyrmont, Sydney

Cost: Entry Fee: $40+

Dress code: Smart/Formal Clothing

Music: RnB, Rap, House, Techno...

Review:

If you love to stand in massive lines, then Marquee is the place for you! Pretty poorly managed from the outside but once you get into the venue it is actually really good. At marquee money certainly does talk, so if you've got cash to burn you'll love it, drinks are fairly pricey to go on-top of the entry fee. The music is awesome though plenty of different rooms to cater for different type of music. Everything in the club is regal and prestige so if you want to feel like the top of the bunch then head down to Marquee on Saturday night.

The crowd varies, from after work suits, to those who've made a long trek into the city for an evening. One minute it's ultra sophisticated, the next minute it's ultra not.  Expect to pay a $20 cover charge some nights.

When it's warm enough, guests can be found stripping down to their bathing suits and taking a dip in the sparkling swimming pool.  Don't be surprised to see floating swans, inflatable thongs or what not, providing the perfect prop with which to frolic.  With the handy Changerooms (complete with lockers and showers), they've really thought of everything.  But, when it's cooler, the pool still provides the perfect setting for a chilled evening or afternoon.

Beware, this is not a cheap bar (would you expect anything less?), you will need money to burn, but the drinks are good, especially the cocktails.  The Mojitos we have this evening go down a treat.

You can be sure there will always be a hot DJ to listen to, whether you visit on a Friday evening, or a Sunday afternoon. I
n fact, spending a Sunday afternoon at Pool Club, is not such a bad thing, is it?
